What is actually in your family tree file?
Drop in the GEDCOM your genealogy program exports and you will see it straight away: how many generations you have, your oldest known ancestor, and where the gaps are.
Good day. Your family tree file stays on your device. I only take a peek.
Rather use your phone? The app is free.
Or drag the file here. A .ged or .gedcom from Gramps, Family Tree Maker, Aldfaer, MyHeritage, Ancestry, and anything else that exports GEDCOM.

Only if you then choose to put the tree in a palace and create an account is it saved, in your own account.
Questions people ask
How can I open a GEDCOM file without software?
Open this page in any web browser and choose the file. It is read on the spot, without installing a genealogy program, and you see who is in it, how many generations it covers and where the gaps are. The file never leaves your computer or phone.
Is this GEDCOM viewer free?
Yes. Reading your file costs nothing, and this tool stays free, with or without an account.
Do I need an account?
No. You do not sign up or give an email address to read your file. An account only comes into it if you want to keep the tree in a palace of The Memory Palace.
Which programs export GEDCOM?
Almost every genealogy program and website can export a GEDCOM file, including Gramps, Family Tree Maker, Aldfaer, MyHeritage and Ancestry. Look for Export or Download in the menu and choose GEDCOM. The file ends in .ged or .gedcom.
What does the file show?
The number of people, families, generations and surnames, the years the tree spans, your longest line of parents from the oldest known ancestor down, and the gaps: people without a date of birth, without a surname, without a place, or not linked to any family. Lines that could not be read are counted too.
