How it works
- 1.Choose your photographs above, or drag a whole folder onto this page. Up to 5,000 files at a time.
- 2.Your browser reads only the date each photo was taken, from the head of the file. The pictures themselves are not opened.
- 3.You see how many photographs there are, how many years have photos, the years they span, and which runs of years have no photo at all.
- 4.Photographs without a date taken, such as most scans, are counted separately and left off the timeline, so they do not draw a gap that is not there.
What happens to your photographs

How can I see which years are missing from my photos?
Choose your photographs or drag a folder onto this page. The tool reads the date each photo was taken and shows which years are there and which runs of years have no photo at all. Those are usually the years still sitting in a box, or with somebody else in the family.
Is it free?
Yes. It costs nothing, and this tool stays free, with or without an account.
Do I need an account?
No. You do not sign up or give an email address. An account only comes into it if you want to build a palace for your photographs.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Only the date stored inside each file is read, in your own browser. The photographs stay on your computer or phone.
Why are some photos not on the timeline?
Only photographs that carry the date they were taken inside the file can be placed. Scans and forwarded photos often have no such date, and the tool reads it from JPEG, HEIC (iPhone), PNG, WebP, TIFF and AVIF files. On a scan the file date is the day it was scanned, so those photos are counted but not placed.
